Wassail! It's back - to cope with whatever the winter might throw at us we've created a smaller, more limited event but will still have the drama and fun you'd expect.
Come and join us for fun in the orchard as we invoke the spirits of the apple trees and ward off evil spirits by making a clamour! We're holding the 4th Annual Wessington Wassail in our orchard at Amber Valley Vineyards on January 25th 2025.
It's an opportunity in that dark dismal period after Christmas, when the tree is down and twinkly lights have faded to cold, to bring a bit of life, fire and warmth to the tail-end of winter and remind ourselves that Spring and warmer longer day are within sight.
For the grown-ups there's a Green Man themed hat or headdress competition and there's a decent wine prize too!
The headdress will need to be made of all natural and recyclable materials. Its outward appearance must be of natural materials of course.
For the kids a there is a fruit themed fancy dress competition, a cloak or a headdress is acceptable and again it must be made of natural and recycled materials. Please carefully check and ensure the any shop-bought fabric components of your child's fancy dress costume adheres to relevant fire safety standards.
For more information on what a Wassail is all about please read this short blog post What is Wassail?
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the likely wet ground conditions at this time of year there will be no parking on site. We therefore ask people to park considerately in the village of Wessington and walk down to us. It's only a few minutes walk away. The limited parking will be reserved for vendors and their vehicles and exceptional disabled parking spaces for a small number of cars. Even better if you can use public transport or stay in our local B&Bs, pubs or caravan sites.
Also, please bring a torch and be well-wrapped up and dressed for the weather. Stout boots and wellies recommended! This is an outdoor event and it's likely colder than you think it will be! Especially important where kids believe they're impervious to cold and soon end up freezing.
Once you’ve booked all you’ll need is your order number and to show your purchase (email or screenshot) and your name. You’ve no need to collect a ticket!

To reiterate: Please be dressed for the conditions; it's damp underfoot, muddy in places, it's cold as it's outdoors mostly and it's dark so bring a torch! The bonfire and fire pits will warm things up a little but please ensure your children are safe around fires etc.
